Intercooler Installation Pictures on the Beast - my 1998 Vobra

Dismantling Vortech and tubes

A big hole without the Vortech

Testing the mount for the blow-through MAF. This approach later failed
and we ended
up with a straight pipe and fender mounted MAF as used with the standard Vortech.
The
reason it failed was driveability problems.

Meanwhile, I am changing injectors to 36lb ones - Fuel rails off

Injectors gone

View of intake - 20,000 miles

Bottom left side of cooler - looking up from wheel.

This is shows another view of the same area. Notice the clean mount and inlet into the cooler

Another view from the bottom left side.

A view from the bottom right side.

View from the front. We went for maximum area. What this means is
it sits a little off
center to allow the pipe on the left side (drivers) to connect at the top of the
cooler. If we
focused
on symmetry, the cooler would have been much shorter on the right side.

Here is a pictures of the completed install. The cooler isn't visible
at all unless on the
ground looking into the lower grill.

View of the exact clocking - we needed to move the both-down clips around to
the left by
one hole to keep it from hitting on blower.

Another view of the final position

Looking from the bottom at the outlet from the Vortech. On the left is
the tub it needs to
connect to with a long straight pipe. A 45 degree angle pipe will connect
at the blower to
give the pipe a straight run.

View of elbow as it routes from the cooler up and under to where the straight
pipe, discussed
above, will connect.

This shot is looking down from the open hood on driver's side at the elbow
coming up. This
will connect to the straight pipe that then connects to the blower.

Another view of the final clocking.

Cutting the hole for the return pipe from the cooler to the MAF and on to the intake

Cleaning up the edges

View of the smog pump relocation to the bumper support.

Mockup of how it all lays in there. Bypass valve is not connected yet to the inlet (white at bottom).

Another view of the mockup

Close up view of the bypass connection to the inlet pipe.

Final mockup view.

Rotate the lower mount for the radiator overflow tank

Completed and attached outlet from Vortech down to cooler inlet

Closer view of straight pipe from Vortech

From underneath left side to bung for bypass valve

Drilling for relocated mount of the power steering cooler

Output from cooler heading towards blow-through MAF

Completed!
